New Painting: Lift

A good painting day! I love this one, and though I’ve been told over and over that my paintings are gloom and doom, I really feel that the gloom enhances light and colour. An artist only has so much control over how their work is interpreted, but as the artist, for me the focus is on the brights, not the darks.

Robin’s Eggs

When we were kids, finding a robin’s egg was like finding the holy grail. They’re so beautiful, the colour of the shell, the fragility, the delicate little speckles…they’re just pretty! So when my sister Gillian found one on our walk the other day, you can imagine my delight! It’s such a nice sign of spring. I brought it home, where Oliver was quick to point out that it was probably covered in parasites and bird turd. Sigh.
